serendipti's Diaryland Diary 12:21 a.m. - Monday, Jul. 18, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the kite runner Amy egged me on. I swear. I was going to be good. I started reading "The Kite Runner" by Khalid Hosseini, and I started it in the afternoon, and some time in the evening when I spoke to Amy, i was like, yeah, I read about 200 pages, and she was like, that's disappointing....I thought you'd be done with it (as is my wont)....and so I listened to that, and threw caution and growing up and my attempted notions of reading responsibly--- I chucked out the window and I spent the day devouring a book, in its entirety, the way I have always read books, greedily and lustily the way you gulp at the drinking fountain stream after a long run. And this feeling, the feeling of delicious tiredness, where your eyes are dry and you can hear the sound on inner eyelid rub over eyeball because there is just not enough lubrication....that is always the sound of some satisfying adventure I had the privilege of witnessing---nay, parataking in. I need to wake up in 6 hours...less than....and I am on call manana.....and this was an irresponsible read, but it is difficult to, this late in the game, change the way you love something. the manner in which you love, by this point, is something incorrigible, I think. And there are so some beautiful passages I have marked that I will try and share with you. Otherwise, read it. Only $7 at Costco..... I must to bed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
