random bits of news

This is Labour Day morning….I like being annoying and inserting the brit ‘u’…sorry.

I spent an hour reading the most interesting looking ‘most emailed articles’ list in the nytimes. So I read about Biola and its evangelical Christian teaching philosophy (wackety wee wack if you ask me….it reminded me if things in that movies I like, Saved) and how these students learn about other cultures in order to be able to better understand people in order to be better missionaries and spread the Gospel of JC worldwide. Interesting article, though, but brought up many scary scenarios. Then I read more about the French ban of head scarves, and I started to get really pissed. Then I read a bit about the genocide in Sudan, then I got sad. I am very predictable, really.

Then I read about this Jewish media mogul is a multi-gajillionaire, and how he devotes all his time and resources to forward the cause of his one true unflagging passion I life:Israel. He, coincidentally, own the largest media conglomerate in Germany. And he was the biggest single contributor to the Democratic Party, during the Clinton era, in the history of the party. How bout that. Then I read a bit about Burning Man (have any of you guys ever wanted to go….I have….but do you think it is ridiculous and annoying…lemme know) and then I read about this senate candidate from Virginia, Schrocker, I think, who is this rabid anti-gay Republican, who got outed by this website, blogactive.com, and he dropped out of the race, cuz they had an audio file of him trying to solicit sex from a gay phone-sexline thing. And this website claims that this is the beginning of a list of politicians who are hypocrites that they are going to out. You may not agree with the tactics, but tis muy effective nonetheless, no?

Last night I was at a Phillina Sun bday dinner party, like times of old, except now there was the presence of husbands and babies (okay, baby, but it sounds better and more dramtic/effective as a plural), and so on some level, it was not like times of old, it just indicated we are getting OLD! But if getting old means more lovely dinner parties with yummy food (Phil’s gazpacho was AWESOME), and funny games of scrabble with words like Tante (german for Aunty) allowed, then I am all for growing old. Happy Birthday Phillina! I look forward to growing older and older with you! I gave her a copy of the Prophet, because, shockingly, I have not done that yet. Her home is so lovely and artistic and free and Phil…it made me happy to see.

I have to run to a baby shower because they are kind of making me, since Bhabhi will have one at some point, and I will have to perform some of the ceremonies (this is an Indian baby shower) and Mom wants me to see it all done firsthand because I am sure she fears I’ll screw it up or something. So we are off.

If bloody diaryland will actually let me upload this entry, that’s be great.
