serendipti's Diaryland Diary 11:05 a.m. - Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- you had 1300 messages, you now have 0 messages so as is often the case with me, fresh starts and clean slates are usually imposed upon me, rather than voluntarily undertaken. Case in point, my UIC email account. Like email accounts of my past, my UC Berkeley account, my old hotmail account, this account had emails that I did not want to delete and so I didn't.....I had about 1400 messages in the inbox, starting from two years ago, and I knew I had to clean it out, knew I should print the ones I wanted and delete the rest, but I never had the balls to do it, because as in other aspects of my life, I am a packrat and not proud....I have always envied people with those green bars that indicate long miles of kilobyte memory to go....me, my yahoo account (until they increased it to 100KB, thanks to competition from gmail, bless them) would always have a screaming angry bright red bar that expressed its outrage at my 104% use of my storage space, and even with my UIC mail, i got used to the "your inbox has exceeded its capacity by 21000mb/kb/gb....you may not be able to send or receive new mail....." and then I would get emails saying, you have 5 days to get your mail under quota...then 4, then 3, then two.....and they would keep giving me chances..... and then came today. I had 0 messages in my account. They ate them all up. There is a simultaneous clean/purged feeling juxtaposed with a sadness/violation feeling, because I forget all the great emails that I had kept, and they are gone forever. One day, I will *choose* to give myself a fresh start, a clean slate....I will voluntarily purge and be satisfied......one day. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
